MAMAL 2023: Maiguwa, Shittu, Nweke, Others to Speak On Maritime Security Challenges

The list of leaders and key figures in the maritime industry that is set to grace the maiden Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria’s (MARAN) Annual Maritime Lecture (MAMAL) scheduled for November 29, 2023, at the Rockview Hotel in Apapa, Lagos has continued to grow exponentially.

Among the latest confirmed list of attendees are Mr. Emmanuel Maiguwa, President of Maritime Security Providers Association of Nigeria (MASPAN); Prince Olayiwola Shittu, former President of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA); and Eugene Nweke, Secretary of the Customs Consultative Council (CCC) among other top industry echelon that have earlier confirmed their attendance.

Earlier, the President General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Prince Adewale Adeyanju, former Minister of Interior and Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Integrated Oil and Gas Ltd, Capt. Emmanuel Ihenacho, and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Nigeria Indigenous Shipowners Association (NISA) Chief Isaac Jolapamo, had confirmed their attendance.

The theme of the inaugural annual lecture is “Maritime Security: Emerging Threats and Actionable Steps,” aiming to provide comprehensive and sustainable solutions to maritime crimes in the Gulf of Guinea (GoG) region.

The event, endorsed by MARAN as the leading umbrella organization for journalists covering the Nigerian maritime sector, will focus on protecting seafaring and fishing communities in affected countries.

In a press statement released by MARAN’s President, Godfrey Bivbere, it was highlighted that the collaborative efforts of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and other maritime agencies have significantly reduced piracy incidents in Nigerian waters and the GoG throughout 2022. The Gulf of Guinea Maritime Collaboration Forum for Shared Awareness and Deconfliction (GOG-MCF/SHADE) has played a pivotal role in fostering regional cooperation and yielding tangible results in addressing piracy.

The event will feature distinguished guests, including the Special Guest of Honour, Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and keynote speaker Dr. Bashir Jamoh, the Director-General of NIMASA. Notable speakers include Barr. Temisan Omatseye, former NIMASA DG; Alhaji Aminu Umar, President of the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping (NCS); Mr. Emmanuel Maiguwa, President of MASPAN; and Capt. Warredi Eniosuo.

A wide array of stakeholders from the maritime sector, including Shipowners, NIMASA, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), the Nigerian Navy, Shipping Lines, Terminal Operators, and major seafarers’ organisations are expected to grace the event.

Representatives from the Nigeria Ship Owners Association (NISA) and Ship Owners Association of Nigeria (SOAN) will also grace the event, making it a pivotal gathering for addressing crucial issues in the maritime industry.
