CONMMEP Commends Appointment Of Adewale Adeniyi As CG Of Customs

The Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners- CONMMEP has congratulated the new Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a congratulatory message signed by the President of the Association, Alh. Tunde Umar-Daniah and made available to the media, the association applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reassigning Nigeria Customs Service(NCS) administration to a career Customs Officer and thorough bred Professional, expressing confidence in the administrative ingenuity of the new CGC to reposition the organization for top notch performance in every of its department.

Extolling his virtues, the CONMMEP President described the new CG as a seasoned Professional with vast administrative and organizational experience spanning three decades, in his words, ” the new CGC is a friend of the Media, an excellent Officer who made his marks in the organization’s Public Relations department, he served as Public Relations Officer at various Commands and also as National PRO of the Nigeria Customs Service. Aside that, he performed so well in every other department he served prior to his appointment, we believe he would bring his administrative ingenuity to bear in the discharge of his duties as Customs Boss.”

” The new CGC is taking over as Customs helmsman at a time the maritime industry is struggling with very harsh policies, a lot of things have gone wrong, the tariff is ever in the increase due to alarming foreign exchange rates, high import duties, levies and VAT, the level of frustration is unprecedented, stakeholders are complaining and the policy crises is seen in almost every sector of the economy, it is indeed disheartening that the masses are bearing the brunt. We, in the maritime media, are expecting to see swift economic revival and radical policy reviews that would positively impact the lives of ordinary people and a significant boost in Maritime activities.”

CONMMEP also stated that the appointment of Adeniyi as Comptroller General of Customs has corrected the error made by the past administration as the Nigeria Customs Service(NCS) is now under the management of a career Customs Officer, describing it as a good development.

The Comptroller General of Customs is among the new Service Chiefs appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu few days after he was sworn in as the President and Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The Acting CG, who has built strong relationships with stakeholders over the years as the Organization’s Spokesperson has as well served the Nigeria Customs Service in various capacities until his recent appointment.

According to Alhaji Umar, “we at CONMMEP are optimistic that the new CGC will not disappoint Maritime Practitioners, stakeholders and the
Country in general”.
