Akpabio Emerges As Senate President
Senator Godswill Akpabio was on Tuesday elected as President of the 10th Senate.
He was declared elected by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Tambuwal.
Akpabio polled 63 votes to defeat Abdulaziz Yari, who won 46 votes.
Akpabio was born Dec. 9, 1962, a lawyer and politician who served as minister for Niger Delta Affairs from 2019 to 2022.
He resigned on May 11, 2022 on the directive of President Muhammad Buhari to contest in the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
 He was Governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2007 to 2015 and had a brief stint at NNDC.
Akpabio was educated at Methodist Primary School, Ukana, Essien Udim LGAin Akwa Ibom State, the Federal Government College, Port Harcourt, Rivers State and the University of Calabar, Cross river State.
While at the Federal Government College, he was appointed the Senior Prefect and in the university, Akpabio was elected as the speaker of the parliamentary year.
Akpabio had a brief stint as a teacher and as an associate partner with Paul Usoro and Co., a law firm in Nigeria, before venturing into politics.
