ASF France Holds Training On Human Rights, Advocacy Visits In Imo

Avocats Sans Frontières France (ASF France) with the support of the German Embassy in Nigeria held a two-day training for Journalists in Imo state on Human Rights.

The training which held on the 23rdand 24th of September 2021 in Owerri, Imo State was aimed at improving the capacity of the journalists on human rights reporting. A total of 15 trainees drawn from print and electronic media houses were in attendance.

In a statement signed by Country Director, Avicats Sans Frontieres France, Mrs Angela Uwandu Uzoma- Iwuchukwu, the mission to Imo State also featured a series of advocacy visits to key stakeholders in the state.

” The visits presented an opportunity for ASF France to provide key updates on the ProCAT implementation in the state to stakeholders and also secure their continued support.

” The training largely improved the capacity on the journalists as various session were handled, including a session on conducting a step-down training to enable knowledge transfer to other journalists in the state.”

Beneficiaries of the training attested to the positive impact of the training, one of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Obianuju Nwosu, revealed to ASF France the impact of the training on her saying “the training was very informative and afforded me the opportunity to identify when and how to seek for redress in cases of human rights violation. It has also given me the necessary skillset to stand for the rights of others in similar situation”

The Promoting the United Nations Convention Against Torture (ProCAT) project is implemented by Avocats Sans Frontières France (ASF France) in Nigeria and funded by the German Embassy in Nigeria and the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture (UNVFVT).
