Hoodlums Break Into Warehouse Filled With COVID-19 Palliatives In Lagos

Lagos State Govt reacts to invasion of COVID-19 Palliative Warehouse -  Expressive InfoBy Our Correspondent

Residents in the Amuwo Odofin, Festac area of Lagos on Thursday carted away several hundreds of foodstuffs, following an attack by hoodlums on a warehouse where COVID-19 palliatives were still being kept, seven months after the pandemic began.

The warehouse located on Benster Crescent, popularly called Monkey Village, was broke into by the hoodlums.

The looting started as early as 8am, eyewitness said.

After the hoodlums gained entrance into the warehouse, they looted some COVID-19 palliatives, a resident in the area said.

It was further gathered that the warehouse breakers also set a bonfire at a junction not far from the warehouse.

It was learnt that the hoodlums later asked residents in the area to move into the warehouse and pick some palliatives.

According to an eyewitness account the hoodlums after carting away the foodstuffs encouraged  residents to come and be picking the palliatives.

The residents said they knew the items were COVID-19 palliatives because they were branded.

Photos and videos of the warehouse and the palliatives have since gone viral on social media.

However in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos Governor, Gboyega Akosile, via Twitter.

“The Government didn’t lock the food packs in. They’re in warehouse for distribution. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu used his personal and State resources to get food palliatives for vulnerable Lagosians even before Ca-COVID.”
