Gov Wike Clarifies Position On EndSARS Protests

The Governor of River State, Nyesom Wike has clarified that he isn’t against the EndSARS movement which is taking place across different states in the country.

Rivers State  in a statement on Monday by Paulinus Nsirim, the Commissioner for Information and Communications in the State, on Monday banned the EndSARS protest  in the state.

According to him, the decision to ban the  protest follows the scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad by Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector General of Police on Sunday.

Many Nigerians especially the youths had taken the Governor to the cleaners for banning EndSARS in Rivers State.

However, after a series of backlash from citizens across the country the Governor in a tweet via his Twitter account on Tuesday evening said he wasn’t against the SARS movement.

He said he wants  and supports a total reform of the Nigerian police force.

“It is not only ending SARS, every Nigerian should support the total reform of the Police.

“We shouldn’t make a mistake. If we EndSARS as they have done, the same police people would be used to form another body.

“That is what I have always supported and called for,” he said.
