COVID-19: CBN Says N27bn Donated So Far Through CACOVID

The Nigeria private sector coalition against COVID-19 (CACOVID) has realized N27.160 billion to support in the fight against coronavirus in the country.

The CBN  made the disclosure through a statement released by CBN Director of Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor.

The document, containing the list of contributors as at April 23, showed that the donations were made by institutions and individuals across the country.

The apex bank and Aliko Dangote were so far the highest contributors of N2 billion each.

Abdul Samad Rabiu (BUA Sugar Refinery), Segun Agbaje (GTB), Tony Elumelu (UBA), Oba Otudeko (First Bank), Jim Ovia (Zenith Bank), Herbert Wigwe (Access Bank) and Femi Otedola of Amperion Power Distribution donated N1 billion each to the fund.

Also, Deji Adeleke of Pacific Holding Ltd made N500 million donation.

Union Bank Plc, Sterling Bank Plc, Standard Chartered Bank, Stanbic IBTC, Citi Bank Nigeria Ltd, FCMB, Fidelity and EcoBank, African Steel Mills donated N250 million each and Multichoice Nigeria Limited contributed N200 million.

Donations of N10,000, N3,000 and N1,000 were also made by individuals.

Okorafor expressed gratitude to individuals and institutions who have open-handedly donated to the fund and urged others to provide “not only medical equipment and materials but also to render urgently needed palliatives to the poor and vulnerable segments of our society”.
