TUC Urges Rivers State Governor to Give Peace a Chance
The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, has called on the Rivers State Governor to sheath his” sword” stop the alleged harassment of labour leaders in the state.
The Congress said it was surprised that despite the good gesture of calling warring parties to call off strike in order to attend to the national emergency of COVID- 19, the state government interpreted this decision as weakness.
In a statement, signed by TUC President, Comrade Quadri Olaleye and Secretary, Comrade Musa Lawal Ozigi said ” while we are prepared to resolve all labour related issues on a round table, any attempt by any government to take us for granted will only result to industrial crisis.
” As a labour centre, we are also working day and night to ensure that there is industrial peace in Nigeria and that all hands are on deck to fight the COVID -19 Pandemic collectively.
” We are of the view that it is not the intention of the State government that this crisis should escalate to a national industrial crisis at this very challenging moment. Thus we call on feuding unions to drop their actions as a matter of patriotism”, the statement said.
TUC calls on Rivers state government to allow reason to prevail and stop all harrasment of labour officials.
