Egbemode, NAPTIP, NIS, Others For JIFORM’s Summit

Some prominent personalities and key agencies of government have confirmed participation at the anti-human trafficking summit being organised by Journalists International Forum For Migration (JIFORM) slated for Villanova Polytechnic, Imesi-Ile Osun State on March 24, 2020.

According to the President of the leading international media advocacy foundation against irregular migration and human trafficking, Ajibola Abayomi, he said the programme designed to raise awareness among students and rural dwellers in the state

Speakers at the occasion include former President of Nigeria Gild of Editors and now Commissioner for Information and Civic Education, Osun State Mrs Funke Egbemeode, Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede and Chairman/ Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria In Diaspora Commission, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

Also papers are to be presented by Regional Director of National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Mrs Kehinde Akomolafe; Osun State Director of National Orientation Agency, Mrs Yomi Olasinde and Rector of Villanova Polytechnic, Professor Ikechuckwu Anthony Kanu, O.S.A.

“With the growing concerning over the rate at which Nigerian youths are being deceived to take to Mediterranean Sea, desert and other unapproved routes, time has come for those of us in the media to work the talk and by sharing our experiences with our people in order to enlighten them against the antics of human traffickers taking advantage of their ignorance and innocence.

“Following the 2019 JIFORM hosting of international migration summit in Abuja and participation at the world migration conference, we observed that there was need to take the message of anti-human trafficking to the grass root. People should not be deceived especially the youths to abandon their destiny prematurely and then go into perpetual suffering cum uncertain future on other continents.

“JIFORM also understands the need for government to widen the net nets of job opportunities for Nigerians. The people are not lazy; all they are asking from those in authority is conducive environment to exhibit their talents. The indices of wealth must be redistributed to accommodate those willing to work if we must get rid of unplanned journey giving Nigerians freely to modern slavery abroad” Ajibola urged the government.
