NCC Unveils National Numbering Plan To Enhance Telecom Services

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced the development of the National Numbering Plan for the Nigerian telephone network. This plan covers both fixed and wireless networks, ensuring that each subscriber is allocated a unique national number.

The National Numbering Plan aims to establish a uniform numbering scheme and dialing procedures for the network. This uniformity will enable subscribers and operators to easily set up calls within and outside the country.

One of the key features of the National Numbering Plan is its provision for a uniform dialing procedure for different types of calls, including local calls, national long-distance calls, international calls, and calls to emergency and special services. Importantly, these dialing procedures will apply regardless of the location within the country from which the call is made.

The implementation of the National Numbering Plan is expected to bring several benefits to the telecommunications sector. By standardizing numbering schemes and dialing procedures, the plan will enhance the efficiency of call setup processes, leading to improved call quality and reduced call setup times.
