NCC Clarifies Misleading Information On 5G Rollout By MAFAB Communications

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has debunked misleading comments on social media regarding the rollout of Fifth Generation (5G) services by MAFAB Communications. Contrary to the false claims, MAFAB Communications, one of the companies granted a 5G licence by the Commission, has indeed rolled out its services.

MAFAB Communications emerged as one of the successful bidders during the 5G auction conducted by the NCC on December 13, 2021. After fulfilling the payment condition of $273.6 million in February 2022, MAFAB formally received its 5G licence on February 22, 2022.

Following the issuance of the licence, MAFAB launched its 5G services in Abuja on January 24, 2023, and in Lagos on January 26, 2023. The services were initially targeted at six cities, including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kano, and Kaduna.

The NCC has been actively monitoring MAFAB’s rollout progress and has been regularly briefed on the infrastructure deployment for its service offerings, as stipulated in its operating licence.
