Tribute In Honour Of A Maritime Media Icon, Comrade Ray Ugochukwu

The Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP) Pays Tribute to a Courageous Journalist and Unionist. In a poignant moment filled with shock and deep sorrow, the Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP) bids farewell to one of the foremost Journalists in the maritime media, Comrade Ray Ugochukwu.

With a long standing career experience in the media, many maritime journalists passed through his tutelage.
His thoroughness, eye for details and objectivity
will leave an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of working with him.

Comrade Ray Ugochukwu’s presence was an embodiment of intelligence and intellectualism, inspiring a wave of admiration among his peers. His unwavering dedication to championing noble causes, well imparted on us, led to the formation of our esteemed association, the Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP). Today, we mourn the loss of his courageous attributes and mentorship, knowing that words alone cannot adequately express the depth of our grief.

Comrade Ray Ugochukwu’s determination in setting and achieving goals was unparalleled. It comes as no surprise that the Lagos Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) regarded him as one of their pillars. His meritorious service to the union included holding the positions of Chairman of the Seminar Committee and Member of the Committee on Milestone Recognition of Media Icons in Nigeria. Throughout his lifetime, he tirelessly worked to advance maritime reporting and improve the welfare of journalists.

Having made significant contributions to various media houses, Comrade Ray Ugochukwu’s accomplishments were truly monumental. He served as the former President of the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) and President of the Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria (MAJAN). Additionally, he held the position of Chairman of the Daily Times Chapel of NUJ. These milestones solidified his status as a respected figure within the industry.

The legacies left behind by Comrade Ray Ugochukwu are there for all to see. His passion for his craft and dedication to the maritime sector will continue to shape the field for generations to come. The impact of his work on the advancement of maritime reporting is immeasurable, leaving an enduring mark on both the profession and the lives he touched.

As we bid farewell to Ray Ugochukwu we pray for his soul to find eternal rest. May God almighty grant his family, MAJAN, Maritime Media and the Lagos NUJ the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
