Buhari Seeks National Assembly’s Approval For N402bn Promissory Notes

 

President Muhammadu Buhari, has in separate letters to the Senate, requested for the approval of the upper legislative chamber for the issuance of promissory notes totaling over N402 billion to three states, namely Kebbi, Yobe and Taraba.
In his first letter read in plenary by President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, the President requested for N375 billion for settling outstanding claims owed various exporters for the Export Expansion Scheme.
Buhari also requested for debt payment through Debt Management Office (DMO) for N6.706bn and N2.706bn for the Kebbi State Government and Taraba State Government respectively for constructing federal roads in the states
In another request letter, which was read in plenary by President of the Senate, the President solicited the Red Chambers’ approval on the issuance of N18.623bn for the Kebbi State.
According to the President, the payment of N18.623bn to the Yobe State Government, through the DMO will help the state to offset all monies, expended on the execution of five different federal road projects in the state.
Buhari appealed to the lawmakers in the separate letters to treat the debt payment requests expeditiously in view of the benefits to the country.
Also in another letter read at plenary, he also requested for the confirmation of his nominee, Mallam Mohamed Lamido as Executive Commissioner, Finance and Accounts of the Board of Upstream Regulatory Commission.
The President stated that the request for the nominee’s appointment was informed by the death of Mallam Hassan Gambo, who until his death served in that capacity.
