Lack Of Adequate Support For Private Sector Causing Economic Woes – NACCIMA

The Nigerian Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture has said the government’s neglect of the organized private sector is the reason for the country’s economic misfortune.

The Chairman, South-East Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Mr Humphrey Ngonadi, said this at the inauguration of the 14th president of the Onitsha chapter of the association in Onitsha on Tuesday.

Ngonadi, who represented the national president of the association at the event, described the business environment in the country as very volatile, uncertain, harsh and complex.

He lamented that successive governments had continued to neglect the OPS and rather concentrated economic affairs in the hands of politicians, who, according to him, lack what it takes to successfully manage any business.

This, according to him, is the reason Nigeria is still lagging behind while other countries are moving fast with the global economic speed.

He said, “The world is changing, especially now that we are in a digital economy. We missed the first and the second revolutions. Should we miss this current revolution steering us in the face? We need to start adopting the right approach to doing business; otherwise, we will wake up one day to see that the whole world has left us behind.

“Government must collaborate with the OPS and carry it along in its policy direction. We at NACCIMA will continue to drive industrial revolution through digital advocacy and concerted effort in line with global trends.”

He advised the incoming executive officers of the Onitsha chapter of the association to concentrate on ease of doing business and digital advocacy.

The newly-elected President of the chapter, Chief Kelvin Obieri, in his acceptance speech, promised to reform and revitalize the association while synergizing with critical agencies for a conducive atmosphere for doing business.
