The Journalists International Forum For Migration (JIFORM) has condemned in strong terms the killings of Nigerians following protests against police brutality tagged #EndSars in the nation by the youths.
The President of JIFORM, Ajibola Abayomi, in a statement issued on Wednesday from Lagos, Nigeria said, “we are sad by the turnout of event in Nigeria following the murder of several protesters, burning of police stations and maiming of some police officers as fall outs of the protest embarked upon by the youths.
“Without mincing words, we want to equally condemn the infiltration of the protest by unpatriotic political elements and some criminal elements. Notwithstanding the will of the people is supreme and the government must act fast to prevent the tension from getting out of hand.
“In as much as we appreciate the imposition of curfew by the some state governors and actions being taken by the Federal Government to restore normalcy in the country, there cannot be justification for the actions of the security operatives unleashing terror on citizens whose tax were being used to fund their uniforms.
“JIFORM hereby called on the Federal Government to embrace dialogue as the only way forward and urged President Muhammadu Buhari to address the growing concerns and heavy burdens being loaded on Nigerians at this point in time as these are direct drivers of irregular migration.
“ So far, JIFORM commends the proactiveness and the initiatives of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for his prompt responses to issues as well as other governors.
“The entire citizenry must know that only a peaceful atmosphere can guarantee prosperity and realization of aspirations no matter the dream.”
